Travel back from Mende to Clermont

In order to make connections by train and plane in Clermont, the conference will end Friday midday and three buses are planned to join Clermont (included in the fees): 

  • Friday morning, 8.30 am
  • Friday afternoon, 1.30 pm
  • Friday afternoon, 2.30 pm

By plane

Clermont-Ferrand / Auvergne international airport is easily accessible from the region’s capital and is situated only 7 km from the city centre by motorway. There are several direct flights daily from/to Paris with the airline Air France (Orly or Charles de Gaulle) and Amsterdam (HOP!).

There is a good train connection from Paris Bercy station to Clermont-Ferrand or from Béziers, Lyon, Nîmes or Toulouse (

By road

Clermont-Ferrand is strategically placed: the city is situated in the heart of France on the main highways to Northern and Southern European countries and is the natural gateway to the vast Massif Central area. Communications are improving constantly, and particularly since the construction of the Millau viaduct and the new Bordeaux motorway, Clermont-Ferrand has become an important crossroads in France.

  • The A71 motorway takes you to Paris via Bourges in 3 hrs 30 mins.
  • The A75 the “Méridienne” links Clermont-Fd to Béziers and Montpellier, by the Millau viaduct, placing the city only 3 hours from the Mediterranean and opening the door to Spain.
  • The A89 leads to the Rhône-Alpes region and offers not only a link between Clermont and Lyon in 2 hours, then on to Geneva, but also easy access to Saint-Étienne heading towards Avignon, Marseille and Nice.
  • The A89 runs to Bordeaux in 3 hrs 30 mins and then leads on towards Biarritz and San-Sebastian.
